SifSilcopper No 968 (C9)
- Description
SIF No. 968 brazing rods are premium-quality silver brazing alloys designed for producing strong, reliable, and corrosion-resistant joints on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Widely used in engineering, fabrication, refrigeration, plumbing, and maintenance applications, SIF 968 rods offer excellent capillary flow characteristics and high joint strength for precision brazing work.
SIF Sil copper No 968 is a copper rod containing 3% silicon and 1% manganese used for fusion welding materials of similar composition, copper alloys (brass) and for TIG brazing steels. It is also suitable for surfacing steel and dissimilar metals. Sold in 1m, 1kg packets.
Sifsilcopper No 968
High-Performance Silver Brazing Alloy
SIF No. 968 brazing rods are formulated to provide excellent fluidity and penetration, allowing the molten alloy to flow easily into closely fitted joints. This produces clean, high-strength brazed connections with minimal distortion of the parent material.
The alloy is particularly suitable for joining:
- Mild steel
- Stainless steel
- Copper
- Brass
- Bronze
- Nickel alloys
- Dissimilar metal combinations
Excellent Joint Strength and Reliability
The silver content of SIF 968 brazing rods provides strong, durable joints capable of withstanding mechanical stress, vibration, and temperature fluctuations. The resulting brazed connections offer:
- High tensile strength
- Excellent ductility
- Good impact resistance
- Long-term reliability
These properties make SIF No. 968 a popular choice for both industrial production and repair applications.
Low Temperature Brazing Performance
Compared with traditional bronze brazing alloys, SIF No. 968 operates at relatively low brazing temperatures, helping to:
- Reduce heat input
- Minimise distortion
- Protect heat-sensitive components
- Improve overall joint appearance
The lower working temperature also makes the rods suitable for precision assemblies and thin section materials.
Corrosion Resistant Brazed Joints
SIF 968 produces brazed joints with excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, making it suitable for use in demanding service environments including:
- Refrigeration systems
- Air conditioning equipment
- Process pipework
- Engineering assemblies
- Maintenance and repair work
Smooth Flow and Excellent Wetting Action
The alloy provides outstanding wetting characteristics, allowing the filler metal to flow freely through the joint by capillary action. This ensures:
- Consistent joint penetration
- Reduced porosity
- Clean finished appearance
- Reliable joint integrity
Composition:96% Cu,3% Si,1% Mn
Conforms to:BS2901 C9,Din CuSi3
Ideal for a fast braze of mild steel at a lower temperature of just 1000c, much quicker and cooler than the usual A15 TIG rods.
Also known as C9 rods.
