Whether you're a professional fabricator, maintenance engineer, automotive repair specialist or home workshop user, Migtigarc supplies reliable plasma cutting equipment designed to deliver fast, accurate and clean cuts across a wide range of metals.

From compact 230V plasma cutters for portable use to powerful 400V industrial plasma cutting machines, our range offers solutions for every application and budget.

Professional Plasma Cutting Performance

Plasma cutting is one of the fastest and most efficient methods of cutting electrically conductive metals. By using a high-temperature plasma arc and compressed air, a plasma cutter produces clean, precise cuts with a narrow kerf and minimal heat-affected zone. Compared with traditional cutting methods, plasma cutting reduces distortion, minimises finishing work and increases productivity.

Our plasma cutters are suitable for cutting:

  • Mild steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminium
  • Galvanised steel
  • Copper
  • Brass

Whether you're cutting thin sheet metal or heavy steel plate, a quality plasma cutter delivers excellent edge quality with minimal dross.

Choosing the Right Plasma Cutter

Selecting the right plasma cutter depends on the materials you cut most often and where you intend to use the machine.

For occasional maintenance and light fabrication, a 230V single-phase plasma cutter provides excellent portability and performance. For heavier fabrication, production environments and thicker materials, a 400V three-phase plasma cutter offers higher duty cycles, greater cutting capacity and faster cutting speeds.

Many modern machines also feature:

  • Pilot arc ignition for cutting painted, rusty and expanded metal
  • Dual-voltage operation for increased flexibility
  • CNC compatibility for automated cutting systems
  • Built-in compressors on selected models
  • Digital control panels for accurate adjustment

Why Choose a Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter ?

Pilot arc technology allows the plasma arc to start without direct contact with the workpiece. This makes it easier to cut:

  • Rusted steel
  • Painted surfaces
  • Expanded mesh
  • Perforated metal
  • Grilles and open sections
  • No gas used - saving money against Oxy/Acetylene systems

Pilot arc systems also improve consumable life and provide more reliable arc starting in demanding workshop environments.

“pilot arc” doesn't necessarily mean the torch can be held indefinitely away from the metal. The pilot arc is primarily a starting/transfer mechanism; the machine is designed to transfer to the workpiece once the arc gets close enough.

What's the difference between pilot arc and non-pilot arc ?

Pilot arc

  • Can start cutting without the torch touching the metal.
  • You can move across gaps and holes without the arc necessarily going out.
  • Very useful for painted, rusty, dirty, or perforated metal.
  • Generally easier for CNC cutting and fabrication work.

Think of it as the plasma cutter having a small “starter flame” that jumps to the metal.

Non-Pilot arc

A non-pilot machine generally requires the torch to touch or nearly touch the workpiece to initiate the arc.

  • Simpler and often cheaper.
  • Works fine for straightforward sheet-metal cutting.
  • Not good in corners
  • Less convenient for expanded metal, perforated material, rusty surfaces, or interrupted cuts.
  • You may need to repeatedly touch the metal to restart the arc.

Do I need a compressor?

Yes, unless the machine has an in-built compressor.

Do I need gas ?

No.

How much air does a plasma cutter need ?

Generally around 4.5 bar constant flow. Always check the manufacturer's specifications for the required pressure and air consumption before selecting a compressor.

Can a plasma cutter, cut stainless steel ?

Yes, but the duty cycle will be reduced, also beware of the extra glare from the stainless steel.

Can it also cut aluminium ?

Yes, but again the duty cycle will be reduced because the aluminium acts as a great heat-sink.
