Sifbronze No. 101 Bronze Brazing Rod for Oxy-Acetylene Welding and Repair Work

Sifbronze No. 101 is a popular bronze brazing rod made from a high-strength copper-zinc alloy with added tin, designed for use with oxy-acetylene or oxy-propane torches. It's widely used in general fabrication, agricultural repairs, automotive work, and pipe brazing, thanks to its high strength, excellent wear resistance, and versatile bonding capability across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

When used with a suitable bronze welding flux (such as Sifbronze flux powder FO010050), this rod creates strong, ductile joints that stand up to wear, stress, and corrosion.

How to Use Sifbronze No. 101 Step-by-Step:

    • Clean the metal
Remove any dirt, oil, paint, or oxidation. Use a wire brush or emery cloth to get a clean, bright surface for bonding.

    • Apply flux
Mix Sifbronze brazing flux into a smooth paste with clean water and apply it to the joint. Flux protects the metal from oxidation during heating.

    • Use a neutral flame
Set your oxy-acetylene torch to a neutral flame to avoid overheating and oxidation of the base metal.

    • Heat the joint evenly
Avoid direct flame contact with the rod. Heat the base metal until the flux melts and begins to bubble.

    • Feed the Sifbronze No. 101 rod
Touch the rod to the joint once the correct temperature is reached. The rod will flow and bond by capillary action.

    • Let cool and clean the joint
Allow the metal to cool naturally, then clean off any flux residue with warm water and a wire brush.

Benefits of Using Sifbronze No. 101:

    • High tensile strength Excellent for load-bearing or wear-prone joints

    • Versatile bonding Suitable for cast iron, mild steel, copper, brass, and dissimilar metal joints

    • Good wear resistance Ideal for mechanical components, agricultural repairs, and moving parts

    • Low fume and smooth flow Clean, easy-to-control filler metal with good operator appeal

    • Corrosion resistant Durable in outdoor and industrial environments

    • Crack-free joints Ductile finish helps reduce stress cracking under load or vibration
