1050 Aluminium TIG Rods
- Description
1050 Aluminium TIG Rods
1050 aluminium TIG rods are commercially pure aluminium filler metals (typically ≥99.5% aluminium) used for TIG (GTAW) welding of pure aluminium and low-alloy aluminium grades. Known for their corrosion resistance, high ductility, and excellent electrical conductivity, 1050 rods are primarily selected for specialised applications rather than general fabrication. Supplied in 2.5Kg packs.
Why Use 1050 Aluminium TIG Rods?
High Purity for Maximum Corrosion Resistance
Because 1050 rods contain very low levels of alloying elements, they offer excellent resistance to atmospheric and chemical corrosion. This makes them ideal for applications exposed to:
Chemicals and process environments
Food and hygienic systems
Outdoor or lightly corrosive conditions
They are particularly useful where maintaining the natural corrosion resistance of pure aluminium is essential.
Ideal for Welding Pure Aluminium Grades
1050 rods are specifically designed for welding 1xxx series aluminium, including grades such as 1050, 1070, and 1100. Using a matching filler ensures:
Consistent metallurgical properties
Uniform corrosion behaviour
Reduced risk of weld defects
Excellent Electrical and Thermal Conductivity
Due to their high aluminium content, 1050 weld deposits retain very high electrical and thermal conductivity, making them suitable for:
Electrical busbars and conductors
Heat exchangers
Cooling systems
This is a key advantage over alloyed fillers such as 4043 or 5356, which have lower conductivity.
High Ductility and Formability
1050 filler metal produces welds with excellent ductility and softness, allowing:
Easy forming and shaping after welding
Reduced risk of cracking in flexible components
Good performance in applications requiring deformation
This makes them suitable for thin materials and components that will undergo post-weld forming.
Clean and Stable TIG Welding Characteristics
1050 rods offer smooth TIG welding performance, including:
Stable arc behaviour
Clean weld pool with minimal contamination
Good fusion on thin materials
Low spatter and high-quality finish
Their low alloy content contributes to a clean, bright weld appearance.
Limitations to Consider
While 1050 rods have specific advantages, they are not suitable for all applications:
Lower strength compared to alloyed fillers (e.g. 4043 or 5356)
Not recommended for structural or load-bearing components
Limited compatibility with higher-strength aluminium alloys
