MIG Welders

MIG welding (short for metal inert gas) is a semi or fully automatic process that uses a consumable electrode (a continuous wire feed) and an inert or semi-inert shielding gas to protect the weld from contamination. MIG welding can also be referred to as gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or CO2 welding.

When choosing a MIG Welder

  • What power supply voltage do you have ?
  • What material are you going to weld ?
  • What material thickness are you going to weld up to ?
  • what functions would you like eg: spot weld timer, meter etc...
  • What is your budget ?

MIG machines are sometimes equipped with some of the following features:

Manual  - Where the operator manually adjusts the process and output power using separate 'V' and 'I' controls.

Synergic Pulse - Where set up is simplified thanks to pre-programmed settings. 'V' and 'I' are controlled simultaneously  and the user need only select the material type and thickness and wire diameter. The pulsed output makes for a spatter-free weld.

Burn Back - controls how much wire will be left sticking out of the torch after completing welding. It is generally used to prevent the wire sticking to the work piece when power is removed.

Spot Weld Timer -sets a specific amount of time for the machine to be on during the welding cycle (not same as normal spot welding where it uses clamped pressure)

4 x 4 Wire Feeder - Where 2 of the feed rollers are driven.

Gasless - Where the machine has polarity swap to enable it to run flux cored wires.

Meter - enables you measure the amps being used as well as being essential for calibration of the machine.

Euro Style Torch - Is an industry design standard quick-fit MIG torch.
